I wrote this yesterday while trying to download a video. After many tries, it just won't go, so maybe it's too long - almost 5 minutes. I just tried a shorter video and it wouldn't work either. Hmmm.
Today (that was Thursday) was Day 7 of Aeryn's ISR lessons. Even though she cries a lot during the 10 minute lessons ("Mommy get the towel!"), she has learned to come up and float from various positions in the pool, which gives us time to get to her if she falls in. She can also swim underwater for a few strokes and either grab my arm or if she needs a breath, she just puts her head up and goes back to a float for a minute. Today and tomorrow the lesson is with full clothes on because often when kids fall in, they are fully dressed. Tomorrow will be long pants and socks, too, and even a sweatshirt. (A fully wet diaper can weigh several pounds!) We have only 4 more days of lessons before the teacher has to go to Texas for the summer. Normally the course is 4-6 weeks and we are getting only 2 weeks, but I am amazed and so proud of what Aeryn has already learned.
Yesterday in the neighbor's pool, she didn't want to get out even though she was chattering from the cold - she'd been in for probably 40 minutes. We play and we practice the swims and floats and she is loving it! Her teacher will have at least one lesson with me in the pool, too, to make sure I know the right things to do for Aeryn to practice over the summer. More video later :)
Later: Just got back from another friend's pool - Aeryn does not want to get out. She is a real fish. She doesn't do any crying when we are in the pool together. Maybe the difference is that with the teacher, the exercises don't stop, whereas we do a lot of playing in between asking her to float, roll over, swim, etc. I'm just glad she is doing so well.
